Frequently asked questions

Do I need to see a psychologist?

How much does it cost?

Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like yourself? Talking to a psychologist can help you make sense of things, manage stress, and feel more in control. You don't have to go through this on your own.

At Allander Psychology we offer a compassionate, evidence-based approach to help you navigate life's challenges and improve your emotional well-being. Together we'll work to understand your experiences, build effective coping strategies, and support meaningful change towards a more balanced life.

Before we start formal assessment, I will contact you for an informal chat about where your difficulties lie and whether I am the right clinician to meet your needs.  This discussion will be free of charge.

Formal assessment and therapy cost is £120 per session, payable by bank transfer in advance of each session.

Neuropsychological assessment is tailored to the needs of each client so price does vary.  Assessment involves 4-6 sessions and price will be discussed at introductory chat.

Confidentiality

How long does therapy last?

As a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC, my professional and legal responsibility is to honour and protect the confidentiality of clients at all times.  I am also registered with ICO and follow their advice and guidelines on data protection, with all software I use compliant with GDPR.

The only time that confidentiality would be broken is if I were to became aware of information that made me concerned for your safety or the safety of others, in which case it may be necessary to disclose confidential information to ensure safety.  I will always endeavour to discuss this with you should this be the case. Confidentiality and any limitations to this is always discussed fully and agreed prior to formal assessment and intervention commencing.

How do I book an appointment?

Each session lasts for 50-55 minutes. Duration of therapy changes for person to person, some people require 4-6 sessions, some people benefit from longer time spent in therapy.  This will be discussed with you at the start of your journey to wellbeing.

Neuropsychological assessment typically takes between 4 and 6 sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please contact me as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Unfortunately cancellations within 48 hours of scheduled appointment cannot be refunded as it is unlikely I will be able to offer the appointment slot to another client.

Face to face appointments can be changed to virtual if reason for cancellation is inability to attend in person due to transport issues etc.

Please contact me through the form on the contact page on this website, or email me at sally.mcvicar@allanderpsychology.co.uk  You can also WhatsApp me on 07367622016.

Please note, I can only respond during working days (Monday-Thursday). I aim to respond to any contact within two working days.

Where are your clinics?

I see people at the Wellbeing Rooms in Bearsden.  I also offer virtual clinics for those where this may be an easier option.  My working days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
